Regular maintenance is extremely important to help your car maintain its longevity and ensure safe operation. Below are the mileage milestones or times car owners need to know to periodically change engine oil, air filters, brake pads, wipers… for cars.

1. Car engine maintenance for new cars: every 3,000 km

According to experts, a new car purchased after about 3,000 km or after 3-4 months of domestic use needs to be maintained so that the car engine gets the best care during the first period.

2. Electric power steering system: 50,000km/time

Like other engine systems, the hydraulically operated electric power steering system also needs maintenance, cleaning, and water changes to increase the longevity and safety of the car.

3. Change brake fluid: about every 2 years

Change brake fluid

Corrosion and performance of the vehicle’s brake system must be checked according to the manufacturer’s prescribed time. However, to ensure the car’s brakes work best and avoid unnecessary accidents, car owners should change and check the brake fluid every 2 years.

4. Clean the cooling system: every 3 years

After 2 – 3 years, the vehicle’s cooling system will emit a toxic substance that can corrode the exhaust pipes. Therefore, car owners should periodically clean the vehicle’s cooling system to improve cooling performance and protect the battery.

5. Change automatic transmission oil: 50,000 – 100,000km

Under normal driving conditions, automatic transmission oil should be changed every 70,000 – 80,000km. In harsh driving conditions, it should be replaced about 50,000 – 70,000km sooner.

6. Change manual transmission oil: every 50,000 km

Manual transmission fluid should be changed every 50,000 km. Manual transmission oil is often provided separately by car manufacturers, so car owners should take their car to the company to change the appropriate type of oil or use the type of oil recommended by the company.

7. Replace engine air filter: every 30,000 – 40,000km or every 3 years

Replace engine air filter

According to car manufacturers’ recommendations, the air filter should be changed every 30,000 – 40,000km or every 3 years. However, the time to change the engine air filter also depends on changing environmental conditions, such as going into dusty areas from road construction or construction sites. Therefore, when doing regular maintenance, check the air filter and see that it is too dirty, so replace it immediately to increase engine performance.

8. Coolant: 80,000 – 100,000km

The cooling water will form deposits and deteriorate, which is not good for the machine after a period of operation. Therefore, car owners need to pay attention to changing engine coolant within the range of 80,000-100,000km.

9. Transmission belt: 70,000 – 100,000km

Between 70,000 – 100,000km, the transmission belt should be replaced. Car owners also need to pay attention to regularly checking the transmission system to see if the belt is cracked or broken to promptly replace it, especially in hot weather conditions.

10. Spark plug: 30,000 – 40,000km

Spark plugs wear out very quickly because of frequent impact. Therefore, after about 2 years or about 30,000 – 40,000km you should replace it.
